More on the Balloon Boy

First off, once we get done railing on the parents.. what is going to be effect on these children. They have four, according to the pictures I have seen. Some are school age. Others like the boy in question are six. I am sure they are home schooled as it seems all lunatics home school. Not that it’s a bad thing. I am sure there are lots of people who don’t do stupid things and home school. I have nothing against it. Just seeing that some people who home school turn out to be nut jobs.

Anyway, what about the children? Imagine what grief they are getting from their friends? The media is going to probe their lives as they are “celebs” now. Just doesn’t seem worth it to get all that free press and hype for a possible reality show run when it could screw up your kids’ future.

  • I place a lot of this on the media. I’m not saying the parents might not be in for a good share of criticism, but this increasing emphasis on sensationalism by the media is getting out of hand. I think while there was a mystery about the boy being missing or not the media was rightfully sharing the story. Once the boy was found the media then began to turn it into a circus as they usually do. Literally thousands of people go missing in America with no media attention at all … some perspective goes a long way.

  • The whole thing is crazy. How could anyone do that to their child? You know that years from now there will be an article in “People,” “Where is aballoon boy now?” Poor kid is going to be stuck with that moniker for life. And how could those parents put people in danger like that? I know the kid wasn’t in the balloon, but what about the rescue personnel and the risks they take? It’s really sick.
Plus, imagine if you were that child’s grandmother, aunt or uncle and weren’t in on the hoax? The mental anguish is unimaginable.
