Why do I have to pay $7 for an adult and about half that for a child when I am paying taxes for the thing to be there in the first place. I realize, honestly, that some money should be paid as a fee but $7 for an adult so my children can go frolic in the pool?
Why don’t Peoria Park District members (which is all of us city folk) get a discount as our taxes are going to support the district in the first place? And now that I am on a rant about something that’s stupid and not going to change, why does a trip to the zoo which at present lasts about 30 minutes cost more than going out to lunch at a sit-down restaurant for my family. Said lunch tends last about 45 minutes before we get sick of the children and leave.
The Park District is easy to take pot shots but it really does hack me off. Oh well, tell Bob Mould to file this under easy listening.

It does seem that Peorians get the double-whammy on this stuff… but since few people complain it gives them the “green light” to keep doing it….

Diane, I don’t know what the answer should be. People should not get to go for free given the small amount we pay in taxes. But I think $7 a person plus some for the children is a bit much for two hours of swimming.

do they still offer reduced memberships for PPD & OSF employees? didn’t notice any price breaks on the website.

I don’t think so. I didn’t see them on the web either. Honestly, I don’t know. I am not employed by either so I didn’t look that hard.
The place is great. I just didn’t like paying that much for a few hours. Call it sticker shock. Maybe they could do a discount for taxpayers, like a buck off. It’s not much but it is a gesture.

Splashdown in East Peoria has a reduced rate for “Spectator” – a parent who doesn’t swim but has to be there for the kids. Riverplex have something like that?

Yes PPD employees get a big discount as do OSF people as do judges and a whole host of others except those that are on the lines that work everyday and pay taxes. We get to join…for a fee.
My business partner is also an employee of the Peoria Park District.

As John Cougar once sang, it’s the simple man, baby, who pays the bills.
