So let’s go for it again. Open Thread Friday!!!! Talk about fireworks, the wonderful riverfront museum or the new library branch. Heck, even talk about our Peoria Chiefs who just keep winning like their big brother counterparts, the Cubs.

WTF. Hy-Vee? I was REALLY hoping for Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s. I just don’t see how Hy-Vee is “high end” , what does it offer that you can’t get at Schnucks? I’m disappointed.

I don’t want to sound ungrateful. Thanks Hy-Vee but I don’t know where that ranks in the food chain of grocery stores. Is this like Schuncks which is kinda a high end St. Louis brand or a Wal-Mart which is all things to everyone.
As for Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s, that would have been great but I don’t think Peorians as a whole would have supported it enough. Too expensive for some people’s tastes. (pun intended). So help me out. What is the skinny on Hy-Vee?

Great post by The Anti Pundit, who always seems to be the crudest yet dead on the mark. He’s on fire again. Check it out.

My first reaction was “HUH?” What’s the big deal – HyVee? Checked the ad for the Galesburg store (actually they have two of them). It doesn’t seem to bad. I will sure give it a try.

Well, Ramble On, I think your post sums it up…Galesburg has two of these stores. Does this not embarass anyone else??? We are twice the size (well, we are certainly much larger) than Galesburg and when we unroll the red carpet for a “much anticipated” announcement, it’s a store towns much smaller than us already have!!!
What’s next? The developers of Sheridan Village will hold the public hostage for the next two weeks to announce some “great” restaurant coming to town and it will be none other than…………
McDonald’s.
Still, glad to see someone putting in the expense to spruce up Sheridan Village after Cohen’s Furniture bailed. If the locals aren’t staying in business, you have to manage the situation somehow.

Do you all think that people don’t want to come here (i.e., the big stores) because of our size or because of they might hear about the negative attitude people here have towards things new.
I think Wicked has a good point in that we are supposed to be thrilled over a regional chain but on the other hand, at least they are here and that gives us more choices. I’d love a fancy company but I don’t know if Peoria has the size or the mind set for that.
What do you think?

I’ll bet if a Whole Foods type store was out near Grand Prairie, the “la-tee-dah’s” would go ga-ga over it!

I’d go ga-ga over it. I just don’t know if they could get the business they need to make it over all.

[...] Here is still another debate about whether we should be happy that a Hy-Vee grocery store is locating in Sheridan Village. Someone compared it to getting a new McDonalds after being promised a fancy French restaurant. And someone commented that the much speculated Whole Foods store would be a better fit on the far north side. [...]

I think Whole Foods is nice but very expensive. Trader Joe’s on the otherhand, is very reasonable. I think one would go over very well.

Well, write to the Trader Joe’s people. My sister who lives in another state has a Trader Joe’s and swears by them.
