One thing I love about other bloggers. When I am thinking that I should write something but can’t, I look around and sure enough, someone makes a remarkable statement. Thanks to Peoria Illinoisian for realizing the joy of the Masters Golf tournament. He’s right that it’s probably one of the greatest moments in sports. He’s also right that there is something magical about watching the final round. He says the final nine. I’ll say the entire last day. If you like golf, this is it baby. It’s Daytona 500. It’s the Stanley Cup finals and the World Series. Maybe not the Super Bowl but you get the idea.
My dad is a huge golf nut. So big that every year, he winds up getting some new clubs. Drives my mom crazy but the cool side is my set of clubs gets better every year as he gives me his hand-me-downs. He’s been to the Masters twice. He got my little guy a Masters hat. He was the hit among our friends (at least those who knew about golfing) when they saw the tyke wearing the hat. So we got the little guy a set of clubs, you know the plastic guys you get a Wal-Mart for five bucks.
Loves them. Plays with them all the time. Just one problem — he thinks they are hockey sticks.
Yes, it’s my fault. We have been taking him to hockey games for a while now and he loves it. So he thinks his putter is a hockey stick. And yes, it has black tape around the club face just like a hockey stick. He swings it around, scores goals and then raises it like he’s from Canada and Peter Jennings just came over to visit.
He’ll go to a golf store and run to the “hockey” rink (putting green) and go all NHL on the balls there. Fortunately, we haven’t been booted out of the stores as I don’t let him check into the other clubs or slap the club down. The other day, he called my dad, the golf nut, and told him he was playing “hockey golf.” Kids. you got to love them.

Glad to see another golfing blogger. Usually these posts fall on deaf ears.
I said the back nine for the uninitiated. For the true golf fan it begins on Monday and builds momentum culminating into a weekend of non-stop golf including pre and post round coverage on the Golf Channel.
There is nothing like the Masters. My only beef is the anti-climactic ceremony of the passing of the green jacket. They ought to do that on the 18th green and make it a grand ceremony like the British Open… but… this is the Masters and we all know they do things differently.

You and my dad would get along great. The only channel he regularly watches, if not changed by my mom, is the Golf channel. I like golf but not that much
